How to choose between a Japanese cartoon and Oscar Wilde’s the Happy Prince?

I like Japanese cartoon, Haruhi Suzumiya. I admire its creativity. It’s not a great work but very interesting. It was a novel written in 2003 and adopted to be an animation in 2006. How could the author dream up a story like that? A high school girl can unconsciously change reality and form her own world.

In an episode, the girl mumbles about her world view to the boy she loves. The boy is a normal person. He wonders whether to answer her with pseudo philosophy or keep silent. Finally, he keeps silent and sees her leaving. Perfect! I don’t think he loves that weird girl. I hope so. But, according to the commercial formula, they would go together. Everything has an order. If he doesn’t and the story goes smoothly, it’d be a breakthrough.

Haruhi Suzumiya’s script is not easy to understand. Even you read the information from the Wiki, you might not grasp it. Oscar Wilde’s the Happy Prince, however, is easy to read. I am glad to find that the swallow in the story is actually a male swallow. I read the story when I was a kid and I had a wrong impression that the swallow is a female swallow. It’s not!

The story starts like this: “HIGH above the city, on a tall column, stood the statue of the Happy Prince. He was gilded all over with thin leaves of fine gold, for eyes he had two bright sapphires, and a large red ruby glowed on his sword-hilt.” It’s beautiful, isn’t it? I read the story again and still find it is interesting.

By the way, the Happy Prince’s author, Oscar Wilde, was fortunate because he died before WWI. How could a man like him survive the war? His so-called lover Alfred Douglas was a deep pit and their love story was super pathetic. No wonder, during the imprisonment, Oscar Wilde wrote, “Of course, from one point of view, I know that on the day of my release I will merely be moving from one prison into another, and there are times when the whole world seems to be no larger than my cell, and as full of terror for me.” He created his own prison.
