Shaun The Sheep: Christmas Party

5 12 2011

Brother Gate gives me this challenge. He doesn’t believe I can find something which are related to sheep and Christmas. Why not? We have Shaun The Sheep.

Shaun the Sheep is a British stop-motion animated children’s television series  produced by Aardman Animations,  and commissioned by the BBC and the WDR. It first aired in the UK on CBBC in March 2007. The show consists of 80 episodes in 2 seasons, and is currently in hiatus.

This Shau The Sheep’s party footage is interesting. Cute little sheep gather together for the Christmas party. And, it’s because they are so joyful and their laughter wakes up the sheepdog. So, the dog knocks their door and asks them to go out. It’s like they are catched by police. But, sheep are sheep. They are calm. They wear cute little party hats and go out one by one. One of them welcomes the dog by blowing a party whistle. I like that party toy.

I think Shau The Sheep has the potential. Right now, I can see it is not fully developed. We can’t find many fabulous footages from it. A friend said, “The UK is the grave of  creativity.” How dare him! I think it is only his prejudice originated from his own nationality. Note and James love British’s cartoon, too.

How to choose between a Japanese cartoon and Oscar Wilde’s the Happy Prince?

3 10 2010

I like Japanese cartoon, Haruhi Suzumiya. I admire its creativity. It’s not a great work but very interesting. It was a novel written in 2003 and adopted to be an animation in 2006. How could the author dream up a story like that? A high school girl can unconsciously change reality and form her own world.

In an episode, the girl mumbles about her world view to the boy she loves. The boy is a normal person. He wonders whether to answer her with pseudo philosophy or keep silent. Finally, he keeps silent and sees her leaving. Perfect! I don’t think he loves that weird girl. I hope so. But, according to the commercial formula, they would go together. Everything has an order. If he doesn’t and the story goes smoothly, it’d be a breakthrough.

Haruhi Suzumiya’s script is not easy to understand. Even you read the information from the Wiki, you might not grasp it. Oscar Wilde’s the Happy Prince, however, is easy to read. I am glad to find that the swallow in the story is actually a male swallow. I read the story when I was a kid and I had a wrong impression that the swallow is a female swallow. It’s not!

The story starts like this: “HIGH above the city, on a tall column, stood the statue of the Happy Prince. He was gilded all over with thin leaves of fine gold, for eyes he had two bright sapphires, and a large red ruby glowed on his sword-hilt.” It’s beautiful, isn’t it? I read the story again and still find it is interesting.

By the way, the Happy Prince’s author, Oscar Wilde, was fortunate because he died before WWI. How could a man like him survive the war? His so-called lover Alfred Douglas was a deep pit and their love story was super pathetic. No wonder, during the imprisonment, Oscar Wilde wrote, “Of course, from one point of view, I know that on the day of my release I will merely be moving from one prison into another, and there are times when the whole world seems to be no larger than my cell, and as full of terror for me.” He created his own prison.

How to choose between a Japanese cartoon and Oscar Wilde’s the Happy Prince? Both of them are good. How to choose between a Japanese cartoon and a pathetic gay love story? Japanese cartoon. Is it a discrimination against gay community? It’d be judged case by case.

Medal of Homer

4 06 2010

Me: Ball Ball, I tell you the truth. Giving the metal in honour the warriors in the south should be the job of the Queen. They are her people.

Goldfish Ball Ball: Well, we could still find something in honour the warriors.

Me: Okay, how about this Metal of Homer? Personally I like it very much. Lost? Give me a break. How could a TV series last for a decade without sense of humor? Yes, our religion is talking about redemption but I hope it is not on a TV series like Lost. Christians also produce animation. We show other people our good works but we also appreciate and learn from others.
